Case Studies

Sam 19 year old
Sam had a deteriorating relationship with his family. He displayed violent behaviour often. He felt completely useless.  Depressed with no job prospects, he blamed society for all his problems.  Indulging in his favourite drugs of marijuana, speed and alcohol, his way of getting money to support his habit was stealing cars and breaking and entering. His biggest wish was to hurt himself and hurt everyone else as well.

To date:
Sam's ability to relate to others closely is now apparent.  He displays more confidence and love towards his mother.  He has a job.  He no longer wishes to harm self and others. His wish now is to help and guide other youth in trouble.  He has expressed an interest in assisting The House of Light in its projects for children and young people.

Lou 24 year old

Lou first presented with heroin addiction.  He began his addiction at 17yo.  He has had thoughts of suicide since childhood and has made 7 unsuccessful attempts since 12yo.  He looked pale, weak and emaciated.  He believe he is unemployable and is violent at times.  He received an inheritance of $100,000 which supported his habit for approx. one year.  He doesn't relate well with his family and had stolen $3000 from his mothers bank account.  After 3 sessions; Lou had  his skin colour back and is physically stronger.  His heroin use is down to once a week. And he has had no further violent outbursts or suicidal thoughts.  Lou is now happy to be living at home, and is talking about taking education courses.

She presented with symptoms such as- glandular fever, concentration problems, no energy, biting her finger nails, eating only junk foods, lack of interest in life (she spent most of her days in bed) Her attendance at school was one day out of five.  During the first session Sally revealed her failed attempts at suicide.  She was experiencing much emotional pain. Her truth was "it was easier to give up rather than face her fears." She had no skills to apply to help her. At the end of the process Sally remarked how much lighter and happier she felt.  We discussed some of her issues.  The way she viewed them had changed dramatically.

To date:
When Sally returned for her second session her eating patterns had altered.  Sally usually ate junk foods but she was now choosing to eat healthier food.  She had stopped biting her nails and her skin colour had improved.  She was attending school 5 days a week and was working with some homework I had given her.  She was able to find peace in her home environment and she discussed some possible solutions for the problems in her life.  Sally was starting to view these problems as opportunities for growth.
